At 2 o'clock in the afternoon on November 23, 2020, the School of Life Sciences and Engineering of Southwest Jiaotong University held the "Academician Sui Senfang Honorary Professor Appointment Ceremony and Biological Science Top Class Tutor Appointment Ceremony" in Lecture Hall 2 of the Xipu Campus Library. Sui Senfang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Tsinghua University, Yao Faming, Vice President of Southwest Jiaotong University, Xiaoxu Ji, Head of Teaching and Research Section of Academic Affairs Office, Weidong Li, Dean of School of Life Science and Engineering, Feng Shun, Gao Feng, and Cui Shuxun, Vice Deans of School of Life Science and Engineering, Zhao Gangfeng, deputy secretary of the party committee, academic tutor and head teacher of the top class, and all students in the top class of biological sciences 2019 and 2020. The ceremony was presided over by Ge Yongming, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Life Science and Engineering.

First of all, under the witness of Vice President Yao Fa, team members of the School of Life Science and Engineering, and the staffsand students’ present, Li Weidong, the Dean of the School of Life Science and Engineering, signed the contract with Academician Sui Senfang on behalf of the school to reappoint the honorary professor. Professor Sui Senfang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was first hired as an honorary professor of our school in October 2016. During this period, Academician Sui Senfang had many academic discussions with teachers and students of the School of Life Science and Engineering and actively participated in the construction and talent training of our school's life science and engineering.
Subsequently, the appointment ceremony of the instructor of the top class of biological sciences was held. The letter of appointment of "Top-notch Class Academic Tutor" was awarded to Academician Sui Senfang by Vice President Yao Faming, and the letter of appointment of "Top-notch Academic Tutor" was awarded by Academician Sui Senfang to the 19 academic staffs selected by the college. The secretary issued the letter of appointment for the "top class ideological tutor", and the head of the bioengineering major, Mao Canquan, issued the letter of appointment for the "top class Supervisor" to Li Suiyan and Xu Liu.
Under the guidance of the "Opinions of the Ministry of Education and other six departments on the implementation of the top-notch student training plan 2.0 for basic disciplines", the school has carried out a pilot program for the training of top-notch talents in basic disciplines in the major of bioengineering. There are currently 39 top-notch students in 2019 and 2020. After setting up a top-notch class of biological sciences in the School of Life Science and Engineering, Academician Sui Senfang entered the student classroom to participate in student training and academic guidance. In order to improve the management system of top-notch classes, the school has selected 19 sentimental and capable teachers as academic tutors of top-notch classes in 2019, strictly achieving “one teacher for a lifetime” and carrying out scientific research training and academic learning guidance. The college also equips top-notch classes with ideological tutors and head teachers to guide and accompany students to grow into talents in all aspects.
At the ceremony, Academician Sui Senfang cordially communicated with every teacher and classmate and held discussions. Academician Sui Senfang put forward three expectations to the students: First of all, to be patriotic, we must realize that we are in an era of rapid development of the country, be grateful and seize the opportunity; secondly, we must solidify our professional courses as much as possible on the basis of broadening. One's own knowledge, physics and mathematics, must also be studied; in the end, you must be diligent and willing to endure hardships. No one's success comes casually. The teachers and students present also actively spoke. Through this exchange with the academicians, the students benefited a lot.
